Porcelain Veneers
Cracks, chips, staining, misalignment - many factors can contribute to making a person have a less attractive smile. Fortunately, cosmetic dentistry offers several options to correct these problems. Currently one of the most popular options is porcelain veneers.
What are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers, also frequently called dental veneers or teeth veneers, are shells of thin porcelain bonded physically and chemically to the front of the teeth to fix imperfections. They can also be composed of quartz reinforced composite resin. Upper front teeth are the most common candidates for veneers, but lower and back teeth are also frequently treated. Veneers placement is usually in sets to allow for a much more even-looking smile than if placed separately. Teeth can be individually veneered, but it can be more difficult to match teeth’s natural color.
Candidates for Veneers
Candidates should have healthy, stable teeth. People with following imperfections may want to consider veneers:
Discolored or stained teeth
Slightly misaligned teeth
Irregularly shaped teeth
Teeth with small gaps between them
Worn or chipped teeth
Contraindications for this treatment included patients with poor oral hygiene, periodontal disease, significant bone loss around tooth roots, and patients with heavy teeth grinding (bruxism) habits.
